The Gibson family have been involved in farming for more than four generations now be it stockmen or managers and now as contract farmers with the home farm being located at Edenmill Farm near Blanefield which is situated on the neighbouring Auchineden estate.
As government support for farming has declined through the years diversification has become essential to keep farming business's profitable and Edenmill Farm is no exception. The family have been selling packs of frozen beef for a number of years to local people and through the need to diversify it was decided to expand this side of the business and open a real farm butchers shop and smokery.
Mark Gibson now produces home grown Scottish beef from a herd which is based on the Aberdeen Angus breed. Unfortunately due to expansion of the herd and strict regulations surrounding AA certification Mark is at this stage unable to produce enough pure Angus beef to qualify for the scheme. In the near future as more home bred cows enter the herd this will become possible.
Mark is proud of the fact that due to his direct control over the type of feed and management systems in place his herd are all Scottish naturally fed animals.
It is thanks to the commitment and vision of Mark and his employee's that he has been able to open up his butchers shop: Edenmill Farm Shop & Smokery - 'The Real Farm Shop of the area.' The shop will sell its own produce from the estate and farm holdings including Beef, Pork, Lamb, Game and Venison.
